okay goodnight tumblr it’s been fun
I love the city of Townsville intro from the pre movie seasons (1-4) the ones from season 5-6 are all same-y
I was actually thinking about that! At first I considered skipping them for my weird little screencap series, but I feel like a completionist so I guess I might post them anyway (and I’ll predict that I’ll probably end up complaining about the sameness).

In the middle of taking PPG screenshots while scrubbing through Slave The Day I never noticed THIS WHOLE ASS GUY just sleeping on the subway platform!?
Look, the arrow’s even pointing to him and everything!
…also there’s this weird part where Billy has his hands tucked under the side of the subway platform but that doesn’t even make sense, he can’t tuck them like that, it’s not like a fence or something.
…anyway that’s weird but the dude sleeping/possible corpse threw me for much more of a loop.

I started something I’ve wanted to do for a while: cataloging every City of Townsville opening image from every Powerpuff Girls episode!
Some notes:
seeing your post comparing the ggg and the rrb reminded me, how would the rowdyruff boys interact with mitch
My first thought was, “They would kill Mitch, press F to pay respects. 😞🙏”
Haha, but I mean I think Mitch is a good kid at heart! He has caused similar bad boy chaos but he’s been shown to be repentant of his bad behavior (like with the whole Twiggy incident). It’s possible they would temporarily let them into their crew despite his lack of powers (seeing as though he is NOT a girl, haha) but I’m sure there are things the RRB would do that might make Mitch think… oh boy, we’re crossing a line here… 🤣
Am a different anon but also not commenting on the shipping thing (they're more nostalgic ships than dedicated. I just know I shipped them because I like romance and puppy love.)
I wanted to comment on about the boys being "pure evil/bad" as I want to at least point out a flaw in that argument.
First:
The Powerpuff Girls are not pure good/innocent, and therefore cannot be perfect or the expectation of it.
Blossom has reasoned herself that stealing was okay if it was for people she loved.
Buttercup provoked and beat up villains to take their teeth for money.
Bubbles has challenged her aggression to be more extreme based on insecurities of being seen soft.
The girls have lied and hid facts or truths from others if it meant they benefitted.
These are negative traits that "pureness" cannot contain, making the girls lean toward good/Justice but still be flawed to always making the correct choices.
Second:
This if the girls are not purely good, then it should be fair to state the boys are not purely bad/evil. There can also be the argument that the RRB¹ (Mojo original) may be different from RRB² (HIM iteration). This would mean that RRB¹ have the potentially to be good (non-Hellish origins to corrupt) while RRB² may be generally Hellish due to HIM's influence of their resurrection.
I am not stating the boys in canon would become heros or true neutrals — but that depending if one argues RRB¹ or RRB², they will be flawed in their own moral code just like the girls. They could be persuaded to do good IF given an incentive to follow, just as their counterparts did for "bad" things.
However, in the truth of the general matter — the PPG Crew did not care to give depth or matter to the RRB. They are just vague opposites of the girls. They were not intended to be developed characters, simply "bad boys" with Brick being the speak, and Butch & Boomer are nearly identical in mannerisms. (Seriously, both have virtually no lines, and depending on the episode, both say something or behave in an obsurd/hyperactive way that is the same).
The comics present a more interesting dynamic of the boys as more rivals more than just "plotting villains".
This whole discussion came from me saying that I think there’s a reason why the girls have imperfections and how the boys’ situation isn’t the same, therefore the opposite situation would not be true.
About your ppgxrrb post, as someone who’s in the shipdom for years but now only like it because of certain famous fic, I agree.
Pretty sure some of the shippers would agree with it too but a lot of them are excusing their toxic behaviors as just the boys being toddlers + doesn’t know any better since most of the fics takes place when they’re teenagers/older. I disagree with the whole “they’re kids they don’t know any better” excuse cause they’re fictional characters and they’re just born bad/evil, and its not that deep
…I ended up writing a whole lot and I’m gonna cut it just so I don’t clog up everyone’s dash with my Deep PPG/RRB Opinions. 😆

I pretty much agree. I will say, as someone who shipped PPG/RRB back in the day that I too fell hard for the trope. But I was, idk, 11 or 12, so.
In my eyes, at least, I don’t see them becoming purely good, ever. Evilness is literally in their core; all three of them were made from a prison, from a *toilet*.
**HOWEVER.**
I do see them possibly going neutral as they get older, but mostly because as you get older, people want to carve their own path and do their own thing. The Boys are naturally pretty rebellious, so, who knows. Maybe they just want to live and just *be*, if that makes sense, whenever they are not causing any destruction.
Would they want to save a cat from a tree? Hell no. But they might want to do some of the things young teens/adults typically do ( hang out, date people, etc.) just for the heck of it.
After all, destroying Townsville has to be boring sometimes, no?
I will say that it is pretty fun to explore their personalities as they interact though, but romantically it is pretty difficult. I think it’s possible to pull off, but there would have to be a lot of set up, and even then, the relationship wouldn’t be squeaky clean.
Gdnfdjmvf sorry for rambling, Bugs. I’ll shut up 🤣
“Destroying Townsville has to be boring sometimes, no?”
It’s been a while since I’ve seen the episode (Boy Toys, I think), but I’m pretty sure these are the same characters that took insane delight in piloting like jets and tanks and blowing things up. They love destruction all the time. That’s what they were designed to do (well, more specifically, they were meant to destroy the PPG, and they really delight in humiliating them, which when you think about that in an older age context… 😬😬😬). They have no nuance. At least the girls have nuance even as kids! And if they were ever gonna do “normal” things it would be like in the worst way. “Dating” would be purposefully using girls for their pleasure and getting a kick out of when they break their hearts, “hanging out” would be going to the arcade to purposely vandalize the machines and harass people trying to have a good time… I mean, the Gangreen Gang doesn’t even always stoop to that, they’ve gone to the arcade to hang out in the show without causing that much of a scene.
…now that I think about it, the Gangreen Gang is the superior crew of bad boys. They’re even a little less violent even when they do their bad boy crimes. They actually support one another and have exhibited like… slightly caring sides (Billy in particular!). They aren’t even that misogynist! Like AFAIK they mostly just get annoyed that the girls are little and can kick their butts. The boys just hate women in general, like they even hated Princess for being a girl even though she’s a villain too. Perhaps the GGG fans I’ve seen popping up more and more in the fandom every year will produce more content and be the ones to turn the ratio of PPG/RRB content vs. anything else around. One can only dream… 😌
(I've been re-watching old PPG episodes, and I got to "Collect Her"! Two funny things, one I appreciate now years later, and another thing I forgot I noticed as a kid-
-When the Mayor is calling out names of everybody in Townsville, trying to figure out who isn't there, he says "Genndy McCracken". I wasn't paying attention to the names of who worked on shows when I was little, but now I can say that is VERY funny~
-Another name the Mayor calls out is "Ish Kabibble", which is in fact the name of a comedian, but I didn't know that as a kid. However, I recognized it as a word from one of my Care Bears movies! In the first Care Bears Movie, when an Evil Spirit in a magic book is manipulating a boy to cast evil spells, one phrase is "Ish Kabibble". I assume it had the same inspiration, but little me was like "Woah, I've connected dots between Care Bears and the Powerpuff Girls... this Means Something..."
Those are such fun little Easter eggs! I feel like when the show was on the air CN really pushed the creators of the show to be, like, celebrities in their own right. You could even download things like posters of the creators online, it was really weird. 🤣 I was so into all the animators and learning all about them as a kid, so I would always get those references right away.
And haha, I mean, they do have some similarities! The Powerpuff Girls sometimes hung out on top of clouds, the Care Bears lived in a whole city of clouds… the Care Bears also had their famous Care Bear Stare and the girls have their famous, uh… laser eye vision that causes severe lacerations… okay, maybe the parallels end there. 😆

Grown-up Mitch is a Sk8er boi (yeah I’m going there 😛 )
awwwwwwww yeaaahhhhh he’s ready to be a hooligan and disregard signage to shred wherever he wants
This is mostly for me, but that headcanon I just posted reminded me why I get squicked out from all the PPG/RRB stuff where the boys suddenly respect the girls enough to ~love~ them. I don’t think the RRB could ever suddenly be good or be “redeemed.” Mojo was involved in the crossfire of the PPG’s creation. There wasn’t any other interference in the RRB’s creation, so there wasn’t anything that could’ve transferred any semblance of “goodness” to the boys, since they were made with such disgusting material. Like they’re essentially pure evil (and let’s not even talk about Him’s recolors added influence later on).
I don’t know why this popped into my head this morning, but one of my favorite things about the PPG is how the girls and the villains apparently have called each other up in the past to team up. Like, the girls called up Mojo one time to help beat up the Professor when he got out of control as Power Prof. And Mojo called up Blossom and Bubbles another time to help him and the other villains beat up Buttercup for stealing their teeth. It’s such a small little thing but it’s so funny to think of their interactions outside of fighting and how they actually sometimes think to ask one another for help now and then.
this reminds me of that time the professor bought pancakes from Him
it all ties into the show’s 1960s aesthetic, in that these are villains but they never REALLY hurt anyone, and are just as much a part of this community as everyone else
When I was a kid I was slightly disappointed that after finding out about Mojo’s origins and the hand he had in creating the Girls, that the PPG and Mojo just continued having a typical hero/villain relationship with Mojo’s past never being brought up again, but looking back, after that episode, the PPG went to Mojo’s lair to politely ask him for their ball back and to borrow a ray gun, so they probably do think at the end of the day he’s just their silly older brother.
Maybe they were the ones who even reported to the paper that Mojo gave their ball back and they’re secretly trying to reform Mojo? That kind of carries over into the shitty 2016 reboot where Mojo pretends to be a superhero the girls hang out with and at the end they reveal they knew it was Mojo all along.
The secret reformation of Mojo Jojo should absolutely be a thing. I mean, as The PPG Rule!!! and countless episodes where he’s saved the day have proven, he’s probably the one villain that (despite being the most evil of evils) is also the one that could potentially become the best doer of goodness and good. 🤣
…actually, now that I mention that, I still slightly headcanon that the reason why the girls have imperfections and can be a little bad at times despite being the “perfect little girls,” and why Mojo can’t help but save the day at times is because they picked up a bit of Mojo’s badness and Mojo picked up a bit of their goodness. If it wasn’t the case, the girls would be these pure science experiments that, even if the Chemical X DID happen to give them powers, would be purely good and could never do wrong. It would also explain the amount of days saved by Mojo and his ultimate motivation for taking over the world (I would assume that could still be end goals for him… just maybe in a way that wouldn’t make him insanely bored, or maybe he’d dial it down to making it good but moooooostly for himself, haha).

this is ten million times cooler than some dumb cutesy green light weapon
buttercup got to man something with actual bullets
thank you notifications for reminding me how OG buttercup stole a combat helicopter once to try to defeat a monster
